Hypnotherapists
How many children do you think reply “hypnotherapist” when they’re asked “what do you want to be when you grow up?”. Not many. Indeed we don’t usually meet young adults who are pursuing a career in hypnotherapy either, but in the coming years that may be set to change. Hypnosis and hypnotherapy are becoming far more mainstream in modern medicine. As a result there is much more demand for professionals and there’s no reason why you can’t pursue a hypnotherapy career too.
Anybody can learn hypnotherapy, whether you already have a good grasp of what it involves, you’ve had hypnotherapy/been hypnotised in the past and even if you have no idea what it’s all about. All you need is the believe that hypnotherapy is worthwhile and that it works. This is because your patients need to believe in what you’re doing for it to work and if you don’t believe it then it’s never going to be a success!
Firstly, if you know of a local hypnotherapist centre or clinic then go along and ask at the reception desk. Chances are you’ll get to speak with a qualified hypnotherapist who can put you in touch with some reputable courses and ways to get qualified along with books, CDs and DVDs that they may have found particularly helpful during their own training too. If you want to do some extra curricular studying then have a look online or in the library for books, e-books and free mp3 downloads so that you can learn on-the-go as well.
If you’re seriously looking into hypnotherapy as a career then do your best to find a friend or family member who is willing for you to practice hypnotherapy methods on them. Be assured and reassure them too that nothing can happen that either of you don’t want, but if the individual doesn’t trust you to hypnotise them properly then it may not work at all. Bear in mind that this is a technique that usually takes hours of practise in real life to perfect so you’ll want at least one person who is willing to help out.
Hypnotherapy as a career in itself is incredibly satisfying. If you enjoy helping people to work out their problems in a systematic and logical way then you’ll fall in love with this job as 99% of people who seek hypnotherapy are looking to overcome a personal or relationship problem. Weight loss, premature ejaculation, specific phobias and panic attacks are some of the most common reasons to visit a hypnotherapist although there’s no denying that you will probably see a lot more unusual cases, too.
Remember that the term ‘hypnotherapist’ is a very general one spanning an amalgam of areas and you can specialise in just one of these, such as anxiety, pain management or sexual relationships. The career of a hypnotherapist is a goal that’s easily attainable by just about anyone who is prepared to do the work, put in the practice and believe whole heartedly in what they do.
